The Helen J. Castillo Ayachi Foundation provides scholarships (averaging $1,000 each) to graduating Galveston County seniors of Hispanic/Latino descent who are committed to higher education and community leadership.
Named in honor of Helen J. Castillo Ayachi, a passionate advocate for education, our foundation is rooted in the belief that by uplifting one generation, we pave the way for the next.
Who We Help:
- Hispanic/Latino seniors graduating from a Galveston County High School.
- Students attending a 2-4 year college, university, or technical school
- Youth committed to giving back to the Galveston County community

Born from a lifetime of observing an educational need within the Hispanic community from someone with humble beginnings who grew up experiencing the importance of a quality education and subsequently lived the life of helping others.

In loving memory of Helen Josefa Castillo Ayachi (1941–2023), a proud B.O.I. and Ball High School alumna, who dedicated more than 40 years to teaching in the Galveston Independent School District. Her unwavering dedication to education and community upliftment continues to inspire. Her legacy lives on through the Foundation's scholarships, which started out empowering Hispanic/Latino graduates of Ball High School to pursue higher education and give back to their community, and is now available across Galveston County!
